Leadership team

VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

Senior Leadership Behind GILTEDGE

GILTEDGE was founded in 2001 by Sean Kritzinger and Murray Gardiner, two pioneers with an unrelenting passion for luxury travel and African exploration. Their leadership, alongside Accor’s strategic partnership, has propelled GILTEDGE into a globally recognised name in premium travel. Today, their commitment to excellence and guest-centric experiences continues to shape extraordinary journeys across Africa and beyond.

Murray Gardiner

Co-Founder & CEO

Spirit Animal: Elephant
Intelligent, dependable, and deeply connected to their team.
Strong memory and experience guide their decisions.
Leads with kindness and has a deep sense of responsibility.

Murray’s love for travel took root early on, inspired by his father, Adrian Gardiner, who transformed drought-stricken farmland in the Eastern Cape into the world-renowned Shamwari Game Reserve. Growing up in Port Elizabeth (now known as Gqeberha), Murray completed his BCom in Accounting before heading to the UK.

After working for an internet company in London, Murray moved into the publishing world and helped launch the first edition of the GILTEDGE Magazine. In 1999, he returned to South Africa and focused the magazine on travel in Southern Africa, East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. In 2001, Murray joined forces with Sean Kritzinger to co-found the GILTEDGE Group, bringing together their shared vision for world-class travel experiences.

After a decade, Murray took GILTEDGE global by opening an office in Austin, Texas. Now based in Cape Town, he relishes getting out into the bush to reconnect with Africa’s wild beauty. As he puts it: “There’s nothing better than being out in the bush away from the rat race, city life, school and work, and having that quality time with your family in a beautiful, remote location on the African continent.”

Sean Kritzinger

Co-Founder & Managing Director

Spirit Animal: Springbok
Always on their feet, making fast and effective decisions.
Agile in both mind and body.
Full of energy and enthusiasm.

Sean’s passion for travel started young – exploring Southern Africa with his family on 4×4 trips, camping under the stars, and chasing adventure wherever the road led. After completing his Business Science Honours degree at the University of Cape Town, he spent a few years working and travelling abroad before diving into South Africa’s adventure travel scene, from river expeditions to touring.

In 2001, Sean co-founded GILTEDGE with Murray Gardiner, launching their journey with Pam Golding as a partner. By 2008, they had bought out those shares and expanded GILTEDGE into the global company it is today, with offices in the United States and a network of international representatives. Under their leadership, the GILTEDGE Group now spans inbound and outbound travel, business, and incentive travel.

Sean thrives on discovering new destinations, uncovering unique experiences, and connecting with people, both within his team and across the travel industry. He’s a firm believer that travel is more than just a holiday; it’s a vital force for good and a key employer across Africa.

Janine Marks

CFO & COO

Spirit Animal: African Rock Python
Patient, analytical, and waits for the right moment to act.
Skilled at reading situations and adapting accordingly.
Moves with precision and knows how to influence outcomes.

Janine joined GILTEDGE in 2015, stepping into the dual role of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Before joining GILTEDGE, Janine gained extensive experience in financial management and operational leadership across various industries. Her love for travel and exploration, combined with an analytical mindset, naturally led her to the industry, where she found the perfect balance between business strategy and her ongoing passion for travel and Africa.

Her career is built on the belief that smart strategy and meaningful experiences go hand in hand. With both a financial qualification and an MBA under her belt, Janine is focused on streamlining operations, enriching client journeys, and keeping GILTEDGE at the leading edge of luxury travel across Southern Africa, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean Islands.

Beyond the spreadsheets and strategy, Janine finds real energy in the collaborative spirit of the travel industry – building global partnerships and helping shape tourism as a powerful force for growth across Africa.
