When it comes to great wines and wineries in this region, the list is endless. So we decided to make a list of the best wine farms in the Cape Winelands, which are famous not only for their delicious wines and gorgeous location but for their individuality, uniqueness and fun.

With its oldest vineyard spanning over 300 years, it’s safe to say Cape Town and its surrounds are a world-renowned wine region, recognised internationally for its fine wines.

In no particular order here are our favourite wineries and why we chose them:

Founded in 1685, this picturesque farm in the Franschhoek Valley is one of the oldest in South Africa. We love Boschendal for its historical Manor House, delicious bakery, butchery and deli.

De Morgenzon

Literally ‘the morning sun’, this wine estate got its name from being the first portion of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun. We highly recommend this winery for those who are into Baroque music and appreciate biodiversity.

During winter, this warm and cosy winery offers live jazz and fondue in the cellar. It also places a huge focus on sustainable development.

At the centre of the Cape Winelands lies the Simonsberg mountain, home to an exceptional vineyard named Tokara Wine estate. This winery is an art gallery and restaurant of note.

Dating back to 1692, this vineyard is a historic Cape Dutch farm that boasts one of the best-preserved farmyards in the Cape. We recommend it for its heirloom fruit and vegetable gardens, organic lunch at Babel, great retail selection.

The Mullineuxs run a small award-winning winery based in Riebeek is run by a very passionate couple, Chris & Andrea. After working at several wineries in France, South Africa and California, they decided to settle in the Swartland Region and set up one of the most special tasting brands.

One of the most widely respected of South Africa’s wine estates, Kanonkop offers legendary excellence in red wine.

Delaire Graff

This winery is a world-leading destination when it comes to wine, art and hospitality embraced by a panorama of breathtaking views.

This unique centuries-old farm is renowned for its flock of Indian Runner ducks!

Pizza lovers – this winery is for you. Best pizza and wine combo in Cape Town.

Tasting experience, perfectionists for quality and a wine drive.

Spice Route

A farm situated in the foothills of Paarl mountain with a mix of 13 artisans all producing what they love. Spice Route is also a craft brewery and offers dark chocolate tasting.

La Motte

A wine estate offering traditional cuisine at the Pierneef restaurant and plenty of historic charm.
