Boschendal Estate provides an idyllic and natural setting for any function or event. Surrounded by the breathtaking Groot Drakenstein and Simonsberg mountains you will find many function venues to choose from enabling you to tailor your event.
Boschendal is located in the centre of Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch. Only a 45-minute drive from Cape Town City Centre and a 40 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport.
Aside from the fantastic venues, Boschendal has to offer they can also accommodate up to 150 guests across the farm in luxury self-catering cottages.
All of their functions are catered for in-house by their amazing Executive Chef, Christiaan Campbell and his team. The farm-to-table menus use only the best quality seasonal ingredients sourced straight from their fields, gardens and from other local suppliers. The estate raises their own award-winning Black Angus cattle, acorn-fed pigs, free-range chickens and harvests most of the vegetables from the organic Werf Food Garden run by Megan McCarthy.
The Olive Press with its exposed natural poplar roof trusses, floor to ceiling glass doors and stunning views over meadow gardens and Groot Drakenstein Mountains make for a picturesque event.
Up to 200 guests can be seated inside depending on the required layout and excluding a dance floor. A further 50 guests can be seated in the adjoining covered outdoor veranda, weather permitting. To seat over 250 guests a marquee would be required on the lawn (not supplied by venue).
The 5-star Werf Cottages, located 150 meters from the Olive Press, can sleep up to fourteen adults and eight children. Included in the venue hire are two Werf Cottages for the night before and all seven Werf Cottages on the night of the event. These include farm breakfast baskets delivered to the cottages and a complimentary wine tasting.
Venue hire is for the day of the event until 24:00. A venue coordinator is also supplied by Boschendal for the catering planning and execution of service at the event.
Rhone Homestead
This historic building is a national monument ideal for small functions and events. The beautiful private garden behind the homestead is often used for intimate private functions. Up to 50 guests can be accommodated in the Homestead, depending on the floor layout.
Rhone Area (Includes Rhone Homestead, central lawns, picnic area and The Cellar Door)
The Rhone Area with its backdrop of the historic Rhone Homestead, the Heritage Rose Garden, and Groot Drakenstein Mountains is an elegant setting for larger functions. The Rhone Homestead, its kitchen and bathroom facilities are available for use when hiring the whole area. The main lawn has been landscaped and levelled to accommodate large marquees (not included in venue hire). The lawn area can accommodate a 1000 guests or up to 500 guests in a marquee.
Situated next to the Rhone Rose Garden Picnic site and The Cellar Door Wine Tasting Room makes it easy for guests to enjoy additional experiences.
Boschendal’s two picnic areas are ideal for more casual, picnic-style functions and weddings.
The picnic areas are popular from September through to the end of May with guests enjoying picnics from approximately 12:00 to 17:00. Both picnic areas can be booked for exclusive use at an additional charge.
Werf Farm Picnic
The Werf Picnic with its pavilion and fountain provides an idyllic and picturesque setting for celebrations, private events and also wedding ceremonies. This area can host up to 250 guests with various seasonal picnic baskets options to choose from. Guest can relax under the trees on bean bags, hammocks, backrest chairs or blankets. The hiring of ceremony chairs and the marquee is not included in the venue hire.
Rhone Rose Garden Picnic
The Rhone Rose Garden Picnic is situated under the tall oak trees and comes with a private bar. Seasonal picnic baskets can be enjoyed at carefully-laid out tables or on a picnic blanket on the lawn. This area is also available for exclusive hire and can host 250 guests.
Front Manor House Lawn
The large lawn in front of the Manor House with its rows of old trees can accommodate up to 250 guests. Perfect for ceremonies and long table functions. Marquees are not provided.
Rose Garden
During the restoration of Boschendal in the 1980’s, the internationally acclaimed rose garden was established on the eastern slopes of the grounds. Designed by Gwen Fagan, an authority on old gardens in the Cape, the garden features many of the original rose bushes that were cultivated. The grounds can hold up to 80 guests. The lawn in the rose garden is approximately 10m x 50m with sections varying in width and partly shaded making it ideal for a picnic or long table style function.
The Retreat
The Retreat is a unique function venue situated in a far corner of Boschendal Farm with exquisite mountain views. This secluded venue can accommodate 72 guests and comes with eighteen two bedroom self-catering cottages, a communal boma and natural swimming pool.
Also on site and apart of The Retreat venue is a conference hall, breakaway rooms, cinema, dining hall, bar, lounge and sports field. If these facilities would like to be used during an event they are made available at an additional rate.
The natural surroundings make it perfect for outdoor functions with its lawns being able to accommodate a 1000 guests or up to 500 guests in a marquee (not included in venue hire).
