Nikki Theron
Nikki is a Senior Travel Consultant at Giltedge. She fell into the Tourism Industry by chance some 9 years ago. After having returned home from a couple of years spent living abroad in Ireland, being the outdoor enthusiast she is, Nikki worked as a surfing instructor. But it wasn’t long before she was convinced to go for an interview in the travel industry and has never looked back.
What’s been your favourite safari experience?
There are too many to choose from, but one of the funniest and most memorable was at Samara Private Game Reserve, with my now-husband having just proposed, and directly after saying yes, a clan of hyenas “laughing” in the background.
Pick one place in Africa that’s forever in your heart?
This is a tough question, but a country that is forever in my heart and I’d love to return to is Uganda. The friendly people, breath-taking scenery, gorilla trekking (standing within metres of these gentle giants), white water rafting the Nile (adrenaline rush of note), great game viewing (especially seeing Queen Elizabeth National Park’s tree-climbing lions) – it’s such a diverse and exciting country to explore.
Top tip for clients?
Always pack ziplock bags (bonus points if they’re eco-friendly). They help to protect your camera and lenses during the dusty game drives.
