What’s been your favourite safari experience?
It would have to be on a safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. I was on an early morning drive near a wild dog den; the wild dog puppies were waiting for the pack to return to feed them. Then they arrived back, many still had blood on their faces from a night of successful hunting. The screeching and excitement is unreal as the adult dogs regurgitated the food for the pups. Was pretty amazing to be in the middle of that … I’ll never forget it!
Pick one place in Africa that’s forever in your heart?
It’s definitely Tswalu for me. Having been on many safaris in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, Tswalu in the Kalahari has a special place in my heart. It’s a mixture of the red sands, the wide-open spaces as far as the eye can see, crystal clear skies, the remoteness and just the beauty of the reserve. Also, the opportunity to spot smaller and unique species such as pangolins, meerkats, bat-eared foxes, and I even spotted an Aardvark on our evening game drive! Amazing stuff.
Top tip for clients?
Take a moment to stop, and just take it all in! Put down your camera and just be in the moment, especially on safari. There is something amazing while you’re out in the bush that’s so good for the soul.
