We enjoyed reading our clients’ Thanda Island review so much that we just had to share it with you! In December 2018, we planned their multi-generational family holiday to Tanzania.

Thanda Island Review: Pre-departure, transfers & flights

As far as organization and transfers and flights, everything was spot on and went smoothly. A tiring journey with lots of flight connections. Without the use of Extra Mile, the Dar es Salaam airport was a serious adventure and would have been a nightmare with our large family. We also had a small boat issue getting to the island, so we only arrived after 7pm.  Luckily the arrival was magnificent, and everyone was completely blown away, so the long trip was quickly forgotten.

Thanda Island Review: Accommodation

The actual accommodation and villa were out-of-this-world magnificent and superseded the online photographs. The variation of dining areas, types of food and our wonderful chef, Owen, were a significant feature of our trip. He kept the three-course meals light and beautifully fresh; we never left the table feeling overly full. The effort that the team put into making every meal an exciting, traditional and extraordinary experience was a special part of our trip’s experience.

Thanda Island Review: Activities

Sandra’s daily activities and morning yoga were all a highlight. She was magnificent with the young children and included them in a way that made them have a super trip without pushing them too far out of their comfort zone. I can safely say that this was without a doubt the best time that my girls have ever had. And this comes directly from their mouths!

Thanda Island Review: Service and management

As far as service levels and management goes, Thanda Island is undoubtedly better than any mega-resort, six-star game lodge or any leading hotel that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Just out of this world brilliance. I cannot stress how incredible Antigone Meda is (you can read our interview with her here). She is the most remarkable team leader that I’ve ever come across. Nothing is a trouble for her. Everything is – and needs to be – perfect! She is so unbelievably hands-on and gets involved in every level of service provision. Antigone is a very special woman, managing a very special property.

To sum it up… 

All in all, Thanda Island is an absolutely brilliant island resort! A brilliant experience and serviced by a brilliant team. Magnificent. 100 out of 10 on all counts. Giltedge is definitely a team we will continue to use for all of our travels.
