Cape Town might be best known for Table Mountain, Cape Point and the V&A Waterfront. But often, when people look back on their holiday in this beautiful city, what really stands out is the off-the-beaten-track adventures and little-known local favourites. And no-one knows those places better than the guides at Escape + Explore.

Here is just a handful of highlights that our clients (and the Giltedge Africa team) have experienced on days out – around the Cape Peninsula or in the Cape Winelands – with Escape + Explore.

Set Your Own Adventure

The adventure begins when your driver, guide and vehicle arrive at your hotel. Sure, there is a detailed itinerary, but having such a well-equipped vehicle means you can be really flexible and ready for anything!

Neatly packed behind the seats are the cooler boxes and crates. Feel like a beach stop? Out comes the picnic blankets, beach umbrellas, towels, bat and ball, snorkels … it really is amazing! And don’t get me started on the delicious snacks and drinks.

Getting Active: SUPping with Penguins

While in Cape Town, a visit to the penguin colony is a definite must! But rather that wandering along the often busy Boulders Beach walkways, how about being taking to a beautiful, lesser known sandy cove.

Here, you’ll have the choice of stand up paddle boards (SUPs) or kayaks and can view the penguins from a different perspective while on the water. Or, if you prefer dry land, you can still set off on the penguin walk – followed by a picnic on the beach!

Foodie Favourite: Cape Winelands

Visit smaller boutique wineries and cellars in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek with Escape + Explore. Not only will you enjoy intimate tastings (often with the winemaker!), but you’ll also be treated to exclusive foodie experiences.

Recently a few of our team sat down to lunch with Chef Duncan on the beautiful Colmant Cap Classique and Champagne Wine Farm. Absolutely delicious food, fantastic stories and plenty of excellent wine!

Finding Out About Fynbos

A botanical, fynbos, and foraging lunch at the tucked-away Good Hope Garden Nursery. Here, fragrant aromatic wild herbs and edible flowers are just a few of the discoveries. And, along with a fresh and tasty lunch, you can pick from the fynbos tinctures, infusions and fruits to create your own botanical G&T cocktail. Another great experience organised by Escape + Explore.

Another unique dining experience is lunch with a local chef, Chef Nicky Gibbs, who has cooked for rock stars and celebrities around the world. She will host you in her beautiful home in Noordhoek Valley, where you’ll be treated to a delicious fresh feast paired with botanical teas from her garden.
