Tuningi Safari Lodge

Tuningi Safari Lodge accommodates up to 16 people in beautiful thatched chalets in Madikwe Game Reserve. The main lodge opens onto wide decks with a rim-flow swimming pool overlooking a waterhole where elephant, impala and other animals come to drink. These sweeping decks lead to a boma built right alongside the waterhole – fantastic for close-up photography!

Tuningi is run by a team of staff who go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and welcome. Days centre around morning and afternoon game drives in the Big 5 Madikwe Reserve which, along with high numbers of lion and elephant, is one of the best places in Africa to see the endangered wild dog. As for the guides, they’re highly knowledgeable and do a great job of tailoring game drives around your interests.

The main lodge has a lounge with a high thatched ceiling and deep sofas set around a stone fireplace. The dining room overlooks the waterhole, although most meals are served out on wooden decks or in the boma shaded by an ancient fig tree. Food is of a very high standard and Tuningi has an extensive wine cellar with a selection of superb vintages.

Honeymooners love the intimate feel of this exclusive bush getaway; and the romantic extras such as a private dinner for two or a couple’s massage on your private terrace. But Tuningi Safari Lodge is also one of our top choices for a family safari: they accept children of all ages; have two luxurious Family Suites and offer an excellent kids’ programme.
