The Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel by Anantara

You really couldn’t ask for a better location: stretched out along the bank of the Zambezi River, the elegant Royal Livingstone Hotel lies just a short walk from the Zambian side of Victoria Falls – the hotel even has a private footpath and its own entrance to the falls, so you can stroll down whenever you feel like it.

The rooms of The Royal Livingstone Hotel are housed in 17 colonial-style buildings set amongst acacia trees on wide green lawns. Each room has its own terrace with views of the slow-flowing Zambezi River and, since the hotel lies within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, don’t be surprised to see zebra or giraffe wandering by – and keep an eye on those monkeys, they love to come down from the trees to steal teatime treats!

After all the excitement and activities at the falls, this luxurious hotel is a wonderfully relaxing base to return to. We’d highly recommend their High Tea served daily in the lounge, its walls decorated with grand paintings of David Livingstone and hand-drawn maps of this African travels. This theme of explorers and colonial style continues throughout the hotel, although you won’t want for modern amenities either including WiFi access in all the rooms – just one small aspect of their multi-million-dollar upgrade which was completed in December 2012.

Another real highlight of The Royal Livingstone is the sundeck which is built on stilts out over the river, and really is the perfect place to enjoy a cool drink as the sun slowly slips into the mist rising from the falls. And if you need anything else, simply ask your personal butler who is always on hand even if it is just to chat about the day ahead and advise you on the many activities available around Victoria Falls.
