Kariega Settlers Drift
Settlers Drift is the newest 5-star offering on the privately owned Kariega Game Reserve. Opened in December 2014, this luxurious camp has nine tented suites in a remote wilderness region of the reserve, overlooking the upper reaches of the Bushman’s River.
Just getting to Settlers Drift is an experience in itself as you are transferred either by boat along the beautiful Bushman’s River, or by a road originally used by the 1820 settlers. Once there you’ll be shown to your stylish suite with its spacious bedroom, living area, private bathroom and expansive deck with lovely views out over the river (each suite it 110m² in size!)
Kariega Game Reserve is home to a good selection of wildlife including lion, elephant, rhino, giraffe, a variety of antelope and abundance of birds. Explore this area on twice-daily game drives led by your professional guide. Keep your camera at the ready as Settlers Drift is fantastic for photography, not only because of the animals but also the sheer beauty of the reserve itself: the unspoilt landscapes, dramatic vistas and green, rolling hills.
Between drives, you can work on your tan alongside the swimming pool, opt for a spa treatment, go on a guided bush walk, or simply settle in on the comfortable viewing decks – a good book and glass of chilled wine close at hand.
Finally, to top it all off, this malaria-free reserve is a short drive from Garden Route so you can combine your safari with a few days on the beaches of Wilderness, Knysna or Plettenberg Bay.
