Founders Lodge
Founders Lodge by Mantis lies in a private 400-hectare reserve, right next to Shamwari Game Reserve. For around 20 years Founders was the family holiday home of conservation pioneer Adrian Gardiner. Today, you can experience a tailor-made safari, while making yourself at home in this beautiful luxury lodge.
Founders has the welcoming feel of a safari home, but with the luxurious touches of a 5-star property. There are just 6 suites: 2 Traditional Suites in the original 1940’s manor house, and 4 modern and bright Contemporary Suites which lead off the courtyard. Each suite has a private veranda with lovely views out across the Eastern Cape hills.
No predators or dangerous animals have been introduced into Founders Reserve, so guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. Go on guided nature walks and bush breakfasts on the private reserve, as well as thrilling game drives in next-door Shamwari a reserve known for excellent big game sightings including lion, rhino, elephant and cheetah.
Days at Founders Lodge are shaped around you. Get up early for a dawn game drive or sleep in and catch up with the wildlife later. Challenge the other guests to a game of billiards or laze by the pool taking in the views. In the evening, everyone sits down together to a delicious South African dinner served in the lodge dining room or in the boma under the stars.
