Chem Chem Lodge
Chem Chem Lodge lies in a private wildlife concession between Lake Manyara and wildlife-rich Tarangire National Park. Eight tented suites sit tucked between tall palm and acacia trees overlooking the savannah grasslands. This beautiful and extravagantly comfortable tented camp practices “slow safaris” by offering a wide range of activities – many of which are not allowed in a national park.
Tents at Chem Chem are positioned around 80 metres apart, so they’re really private. Each tent has a reading corner, dressing room and spacious bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The natural textures of canvas, lava-stone and wood, blend with luxurious touches from the softest bedlinen to the Molton Brown toiletries. Your private sala has a shaded daybed where you can easily spend a lazy afternoon looking up from your nap to watch zebra grazing nearby or a giraffe wandering across the plains.
Go on a daytrip to the nearby Tarangire National Park or set out on foot on a guided bush walk led by a Maasai warrior who’ll share his vast knowledge of the birds and plants. Other highlights include a bush breakfast at a beautifully laid table at the foot of a 3,000-year-old baobab tree, and sundowners overlooking Lake Manyara (which in rainy season is covered with rose-pink flamingos).
Chem Chem has the feel of a vintage safari camp. The main lodge has a dining area and outside firepit, fully-stocked bar, secluded swimming pool hidden amongst the trees and an Amani Spa. A beautiful property that offers the best of both Manyara and Tarangire in exceptional comfort and style.
