Bisate Lodge
Bisate Lodge has a dramatic setting in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone. Perched like weaver birds’ nests on the steep forested slope, the lodge’s 6 thatched villas add a new level of luxury to a Rwanda gorilla trekking safari. What’s more, staying at Bistate puts you a convenient 20-minute drive from the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park – the starting point for gorilla trekking.
The forest villas look rustic on the outside, but step inside and you’re welcomed into a luxurious and modern interior with rich textures, geometric patterns and bright splashes of green. Each villa has a lounge area with a wood-burning fireplace, huge bathroom, and private balcony with amazing views out towards the volcanoes.
Service at Bisate Lodge is gracious and attentive, with staff going out of their way to do little things like cleaning your muddy boots after a trek. Get to know the other guests over pre-dinner cocktails in the lodge’s cozy lounge. Then sit down to a delicious dinner of both western and local dishes, complimented by a wide selection of fine South African wines.
Gorilla trekking is certainly the main attraction, while other fantastic activities include tracking golden monkeys in the park’s bamboo forest, a guided nature walk around the lodge grounds and visiting one of the nearby villages.
