You would be forgiven for mistaking this neat and attractive wine estate in Somerset West, just outside of Cape Town, for a private equestrian farm.
But it’s not long before you are warmly welcomed by the attentive staff. Cavalli is open to the public and the word means ‘horse’ in Italian. This theme features strongly throughout the farm.
We began our time with a tour of the art gallery which left us in awe of amazing pieces – some permanent, some temporary.
Next up, we enjoyed a wine tasting and many of the wines have equestrian related names with beautifully designed labels. Our two favourites were the Capriole Method Cap Classique 2015 as well as the Warlord Bordeaux Blend 2016.
Moving on to the restaurant at Cavalli Estate, we sat by the crackling fire on a cold, wintery day and enjoyed an indulgent 3-course meal paired with the estate wines – such a treat. The restaurant has magnificent views and is decorated with touches of delightful rose gold.
We enjoyed dishes ranging from a light and tasty sweet potato and pine nut ravioli starter to a rich and delicious grass-fed beef fillet main, served with bone marrow crumble! Just heavenly. The restaurant also caters perfectly for children.
Dessert was delicious with our favourite being the salted caramel malva!
As we left the estate feeling very satisfied, we saw a wedding party arriving for what could only have been the most magnificent day of their lives. With a setting such as the one you will find at Cavalli, you can’t go wrong.
