Lisbon is an easy city to love. Colourful streets, old buildings, tiled walls, river views, and good food make it perfectly suited for incentive travel, as a lot can be enjoyed in a short span of time.
Pam Smith, our Incentive Programme Manager, recently hosted a group in Lisbon for a short 2-day itinerary blending food, local experiences, stylish accommodation and time together. The trip included traditional Portuguese meals, a tuk-tuk food tour, rooftop drinks and a live football match between Benfica and Real Madrid.
Did you know?
Portugal’s capital is one of Europe’s oldest cities, with a long history that can still be seen in
Lisbon’s streets, tiles and viewpoints.
A Stylish Stay in the Heart of Lisbon
Our group stayed at Convent Square Lisbon, Vignette Collection, a luxury hotel set in a restored 13th-century convent near Rossio Square. This central location made it easy for the group to move between restaurants, bars and city experiences without losing time on long transfers.
The hotel boasts an open-air courtyard, cobbled pathways and soft outdoor seating, offering guests a peaceful place to unwind after busy days in the city. Soft shades of pink and grey define the rooms, while local artwork adds a distinct sense of place and enhances the hotel’s calm, elegant atmosphere.
The hotel also has a sauna, fitness centre and indoor plunge pool, making it more than just a place to rest. For an incentive group, this kind of stay works well because it offers comfort, location and character in one place.
Day 1
A First Taste of Lisbon
Our group began their journey with a welcome lunch at Cervejaria Trindade, set within a former convent and known for its beautiful painted-tile rooms. Guests enjoyed a traditional Portuguese menu featuring signature dishes such as Steak Trindade, fresh seafood, and desserts, including monastic beer pudding.
After lunch, the group set off on an afternoon pub crawl through Lisbon, stopping at a selection of popular local bars. It was a relaxed and sociable way for everyone to settle in, explore the city, and get to know one another.
What is Bacalhau?
Bacalhau is salted cod and one of Portugal’s most-loved ingredients, often served in
traditional dishes that give travellers a true taste of Lisbon.
Dinner by the Tagus River
That evening, the group enjoyed dinner at SUD Lisboa Terrazza, located in Belém near the MAAT museum.
SUD Lisboa offered a more polished dining experience, with views over the Tagus River, Mediterranean cooking, and signature cocktails.
It was a lovely setting for the first official dinner of the trip, giving the evening a special feeling without being too formal.
The group stopped at Vago for after-dinner drinks. Located on Rua das Gaivotas, this restaurant and bar added a fun change of pace to the evening, with music, a Japanese-inspired feel and a stylish setting inspired by the 60s and 70s. It was a relaxed place for the group to chat, enjoy Lisbon at night and end the day together.
Day 2
Seeing Lisbon by Tuk-Tuk
The next morning started with breakfast at leisure before the group set off on a tuk-tuk food tour.
This was one of the most enjoyable ways to see Lisbon. The city is built across hills, and tuk-tuks make it easier and more fun to move between neighbourhoods. Guests could take in the streets, architecture and local energy while tasting traditional food and drinks along the way.
Portuguese cuisine is known for seafood, fish, meat, bread, rice, potatoes, soups, sweet pastries, and bacalhau. Lisbon is also famous for pastel de nata, the custard tart that many travellers look forward to trying while in Portugal.
Tip:
This kind of activity ensures groups share the experience together, leading to team bonding.
Classic Portuguese Flavours
Lunch at Almirante Reis brought us back to a classic Lisbon institution. Opened on Avenida Almirante Reis in 1925, the restaurant carries a strong sense of history, with an old-world atmosphere that reflects its place in the city’s dining culture. Warm, bustling and unmistakably Portuguese, it offered the group a relaxed setting to pause, connect, and experience a piece of Lisbon’s culinary heritage.
A Big-Match Experience
One of the biggest highlights of the trip was the UEFA Champions League match between Benfica and Real Madrid at Estadio da Luz. Live sport can be a powerful incentive travel experience, bringing the group into the same atmosphere and creating a shared moment that feels different from a standard evening activity. The private coach transfer from lunch to the stadium kept logistics simple.
After the match, the group stopped at Topo Chiado for post-match drinks. Set above the historic Chiado district, the rooftop bar offered wide views over Lisbon, including São Jorge Castle and the Tagus River. It was a memorable way to end the evening, giving guests one last chance to enjoy the city before heading back to the hotel.
Why Lisbon Works for Incentive Travel
For incentive travel, Lisbon offers a lot in a short time. It is easy to move around, full of atmosphere and rich in experiences that help people connect.
A lunch at a former convent, a tuk-tuk food tour, dinner by the river, rooftop drinks and a night at the football all come together to create a 2-day trip that feels rewarding, lively and memorable.
