Set on the outskirts of the university town of Stellenbosch, The Lanzerac Estate is immersed in history dating back to 1692 and is an icon in the Western Cape. After an unfortunate fire in 2017, the hotel was tastefully refurbished and re-opened in July 2018. The hotel is old world, yet chic. The rooms are beautifully appointed with rich heritage coming through in the fabrics, art and furniture.
The grounds are pristine with spectacular mountain views and there is nothing that is too much trouble for the staff that grace the hotel.
The spa is a spacious serene space which offers many treatments using TheraVine products. My massage was sublime and the therapist highly professional and well qualified. The relaxation areas in the spa overlook breath-taking vineyards, valleys and mountains. (Tip – don’t forget to take a cap to use the heated indoor pool!)
The location makes for an easy escape into town, but should you choose to venture out I can promise that it’s not long before you want to rush back to the quiet and comforting surrounds of this world class property. We enjoyed casual, but delicious food in Taphuis seated by the roaring fire, chatting well into the night.
Waking up to a new day on this estate is special. As morning light floods into the stunning breakfast room that first sip of steaming hot coffee is a treasured moment.
Staying at The Lanzerac Estate is an absolute treat, a highly recommended jewel in the winelands.
