South Africa is home to several of the world’s finest golf and safari resorts, offering the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for your golf holiday. Our top golf courses in South Africa have the best views of mountains and the ocean – and sometimes even wildlife. South Africa has it all.

We chatted to our CEO Murray Gardiner about the best courses in the country and what makes it the best destination for avid golfers.

What are the best golf courses in South Africa?

From my experience, The Links at Fancourt and Leopard Creek are the best courses. Both golf courses offer exclusivity and privacy with the most beautiful surroundings.

Why do you think South Africa is such a great golfing destination?

South Africa is home to several of the world’s finest golf resorts and they each have a diversity of the offerings. South African has the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation as we offer spa experiences, Big Five safari, wine tasting etc. It caters to the golfer and non-golfer.

What destinations would you recommend for travelers who are short on time but want to combine great golf with great game viewing?

South Africa is a golfer’s paradise, with exceptional weather and magnificent golf courses, but the Garden Route is South Africa’s golfing mecca and there are several Big 5 game reserves within driving distance. The area has no fewer than fifteen world-class courses.

What should you consider before booking your golf holiday?

That you have enough time to visit South Africa! You need at least 10 to 12 days to enjoy the destination fully. There’s just so much to see!

As an avid golfer, how would you describe the perfect golf safari?

I would say, play golf in the morning, then go on a game drive in the afternoon, and end your day enjoying a sunset over the African bushveld.

What countries besides South Africa would you recommend?

Mauritius is an amazing golf destination – it offers golf & beach. There are several world-class golf courses to choose from and again the destination caters to both the golfer and non-golfer.

Which property would you say is the best golf resort for the whole family?

Fancourt is definitely the top golf resort in South Africa. They have amazing facilities for children and three golf courses to play.  The Garden Route is also on the Fancourt’s doorstep to explore.

What are the different golfing trips one can go on when visiting South Africa?

Golf in South Africa is all about combining golf, wine & safari.  And I would say, let’s not forget about the cuisine! I would recommend a golf itinerary that includes Cape Town, Cape Winelands, Garden Route and ends with a Big 5 safari.
