We’re excited that our clients can now travel to East Africa again! The borders and airports have re-opened and new travel policies have been put in place. Since 1 August 2020, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda are open to travellers!
So, pack your bags and let’s go.
East Africa: Kenya & Tanzania
Looking for an Out of Africa safari? That means Kenya and Tanzania are for you with its open plains, rich wildlife, colourful Masai & Samburu warriors and luxury lodges.
These two countries offer a classic East Africa safari experience with rolling savannah, huge herds, plenty of predators and the annual Wildebeest Migration.
Dubbed the greatest wildlife show on earth, huge herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate during August to November each year. You can also visit the famous Ngorongoro Crater to the Masai Mara and the Serengeti.
Tanzania Travel Requirements
- Tanzania’s air borders are open, and all tourist activities resumed safely in June with safety protocols in place.
- No internal travel restrictions or quarantine is required upon arrival.
- Tourists do not need to bring a negative COVID-19 test; they will only undergo temperature screening.
- Everyone has to wear masks and follow social distancing rules.

- Guests cleared at the airport or border with a Covid-19-free certificate, will undergo temperature screening.

East Africa: Rwanda
Now if you want to add an extension to your Kenya or Tanzania safari and go gorilla trekking – Rwanda is now open for international visitors! But a Rwanda holiday is also a great stand-alone destination. The “Land of a 1000 Hills” is the destination to see some of the last remaining chimpanzee and gorillas in the world.
Rwanda in East Africa is home to lakes, forests and volcanic peaks; it’s famous for being one of the cleanest countries in the world with its progressive no litter policy.
We like to recommend lodges that our team has stayed at and have vetted – and both the luxurious Nyungwe House and Bisate Lodge cover those points. Run by Wilderness Safaris, you can expect a 5-star experience at one of these two unique and beautiful lodges.
Rwanda Travel Requirements
- International travelers are expected to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to arrival. They must take a second Covid-19 test prior to visiting any tourist attraction. Here is more information.
- Everyone has to wear masks and follow social distancing rules.
