Mont Rochelle Hotel & Vineyard

Mont Rochelle lies on the slopes of the Franschhoek Valley, its views extending out over bottle-green vineyards to the rugged mountain peaks beyond. Bought by Sir Richard Branson in 2014, this 26-bedroom luxury hotel has been completely refurbished and now forms part of the exclusive Virgin Limited Edition collection.

Wake up in a luxurious suite surrounded by vineyards; Mont Rochelle lies on a 38 hectare (about 100 acres) estate, putting you right at the heart of the Cape Winelands experience. Have a champagne breakfast on the restaurant terrace, lounge alongside the outdoor heated pool, enjoy a treat-filled picnic basket – wherever you go on the estate, you’ll always have that beautiful backdrop of mountain views.

Franschhoek is best known for its food and wine with several of the country’s top restaurants located in this pretty little town. Mont Rochelle itself has two excellent options: the contemporary French-style cuisine at Miko or more casual dining at the Country Kitchen. As for wine tasting, start at the on-site cellar then visit some of the other estates in the valley – there are around 40 to choose from!

Also well worth mentioning is Mont Rochelle’s spa which includes two treatment rooms and a Hammam (Turkish bath). The Manor House is a private villa on the wine farm for exclusive use or private groups.
