Marataba Safari Lodge

Marataba Safari Lodge sits on the bank of a meandering river, its canvas-and-stone tented suites opening onto views stretching out across dense bushveld to the towering grandeur of the Waterberg Mountains.  Everyone who visits Marataba can’t help but comment on the views, this is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful reserves in South Africa, and there’s plenty of big game too.

Guests at Marataba have exclusive use of a 23,000-hectare private concession of the Marakele National Park, allowing for wonderfully crowd-free game viewing. There is a good chance of seeing all of Africa’s Big Five on your game drives here, with good sightings of rhino, elephant and lion, as well as giraffe, brown hyena, bat-eared fox and an amazing variety of birds – it’s worth noting that this region protects the largest colony of Cape vultures in the world with more than 800 breeding pairs.

Since the Waterberg is completely malaria-free, Marataba is a top choice for a family safari. The lodge staff go out of their way to accommodate children of all ages.
