Where is St Helena?

Located in the South Atlantic Ocean, the remote volcanic island is 1,950 kilometres west of the Cunene River that marks the border between Angola and Namibia. Here is a map of St Helena.

What is St Helena’s connection to Napolean?

This small island (120 square kilometres) has a lot of history of about 500 years to share. This remote British territory – with its strategic position in the South Atlantic – made it an important port for the East India Company. The island was home to Napoleon Bonapart who was exiled to the volcanic island after his defeat at Waterloo. He lived out his last yeas at Longwood House.

St Helena Tourism

There are plenty of activities and things to do on St Helena. As a hiker’s paradise, travellers can pick from 22 graded hikes ranging from easy to difficult. There’s a ‘post box’ at each end of the hike with a visitors’ book and stamp (that’s why they’ve earned the nickname “Post Box Walks”).

St Helena is also home to a variety of marine life with excellent dive sites, great water sports activities, and it’s one of the best places to swim with whale sharks.  For those who like fishing, the island offers many great spots for casting the line.
