On the 31st May 2017, I enjoyed a morning with Cape Town Photo Tours.

A company that specialises in photographic tours of the beautiful Mother City and her surrounding areas. For photographers of all levels of ability and experience. The tours are led by qualified photo guides with extensive knowledge of Cape Town and its surroundings as well as the “where and when” to take the best pictures. All tours are in an air-conditioned vehicle to suit the group size.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced pro, Cape Town photo tours will design the perfect day trip for you. We were offered the option to bring our own camera on the tour or use the companies loan DSLR Canon cameras if required. If you choose to use the company’s camera, at the end of the tour you get to take the 8gb SD memory card with all your photos home with you at no extra cost.

The day started at 10h00 when Liza, our photo guide, arrived at our office to collect us and travel to our first stop, Muizenburg Beach to see the fabulous technicolour bathing boxes. These bathing boxes are an iconic landmark on Muizenburg’s beach with a rich history that make for some striking imagery. The Boxes are great photographic subjects and offer an opportunity for the photo guide to demonstrate a few techniques that you can use throughout the day.  Liza was a very knowledgeable guide and gave us some expert advice for the day ahead, she made us feel comfortable and excited to start capturing the scenery around us.

We proceeded to capture shots of the bathing boxes from all angles, lining up the picture frame, considering the lighting, foreground and background and getting creative with the new tricks at our finger tips. Once we felt satisfied with our efforts, we then headed to Kalk Bay Harbour, a working fishing community filled with bright coloured boats, noisy seals, squawking seagulls and even louder ladies hard at work processing the day’s catch! Here we were shown how to capture reflections of our subject matter on the water’s edge, the rule of thirds and many more techniques to make a single photo perfect.

Liza then left us to wonder around with our newly honed skills to capture the life and vibrancy of the harbour, never far behind to assist with any technical issues or queries. We captured images of the colourful boats, seagulls in flight, the noisy seals waiting for a fisherman to toss them some scraps and the fish market in action.

I highly recommend this tour for any person who has a desire to capture great shots of their holiday in Cape Town. From individuals to groups of 12 Cape Town Photos Tours is the tour for you.
