Photogenic rock formations, high mountain passes, and wide-open plains are some of the things you will see on your drive to Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat.
Angela, our product manager from the incentives team at Giltedge, recently travelled to the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa for a 2-day educational. One word she says sums up her experience is … spectacular! The lodge is set within a 7500-hectare private reserve and offers amazing and fun activities for groups and incentive teams.
Tell us about Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve?
Having pitched this property often to different clients, I thought that I knew this place better than anyone. But I was wrong – I had to personally experience Bushmans Kloof to really understand how special it is. It’s a lush, green oasis amongst the seemingly dry and hot Cederberg terrain.
The spectacular gardens are filled with chirping birdlife, baboons and wild antelope (who sneak in each evening to feast on the lush green lawns). The covered patios overlooking the gardens or pools offer the perfect spot for afternoon tea before the inevitable afternoon nap.
Life seems to march on much slower at Bushmans Kloof – despite the huge menu of optional activities on offer. The peaceful, quiet and serene setting definitely lends itself to doing very little each day! Bushmans Kloof is a wonderful escape from our busy city lives.
Which type of traveller would you recommend Bushmans Kloof to?
This property would definitely appeal to high-end clients, families and small incentive groups looking for personalized service, abundant optional activities, or a place to host a mini-conference.
The lodge offers 14 spacious rooms, two suites, and two villas in a secluded location within the reserve. All are individually decorated with a beautiful collection of handpicked art, décor, antiques, and heritage furniture pieces that celebrate the history and culture of the region. Art and history lovers will find it fascinating.
What are the activities that you got up to?
There were too many highlights that it’s hard to pick just a few. I really enjoyed the sunset walk to the San Bushmen paintings, which date back as far as 10,000 years. The picnic on the banks of the large sparkling dam on the reserve – with expert instruction from our guide on fly fishing techniques and a spot of competitive archery.
The quick massage at the spa, the sunset game drive exploring the reserve and beautiful fynbos, followed by dinner at the very remote Kadoro venue – surrounded by thousands of candles – was equally memorable.
Your highlights of Bushmans Kloof?
The Bushman paintings are a very special experience – and truly unique to the area. They give guests a really interesting insight into what life was like for the San Bushman who used to live in these mountains. The guided bush walk to the caves where the drawings are located was an enlightening experience … I learnt fascinating facts about the local Cederberg fauna and flora.
The Cederberg Mountain area is about a 3-hour drive from Cape Town and offers a unique wilderness escape with amazing activities for families and incentive groups. Drop us a message if you would like to visit Bushmans Kloof or the Cederberg Mountain Area for your next getaway.
