Surrounded by water on three sides, The Turbine is a fun and quirky boutique hotel housed in an old power station on Thesen Island. This little Harbour Town is one of the most sought-after locations on the Garden Route, as you not only overlook peaceful canals but are also within strolling distance of restaurants, bars, an artisanal bakery and interesting shops.

Converting the power station into a hotel was an ambitious project that kept the original boiler, turbine and generators as integral parts of the hotel décor. The result is a superb architectural experience, where luxury rooms, restaurants and bars sit side-by-side with industrial pipes and gauges. Adding an extra splash of colour is a collection of local artworks, many of which are for sale.

There’s so much to see and do on the Garden Route, but do give yourself enough time to simply enjoy these relaxing surrounding: go for a stroll alongside the water, have a cocktail on the deck of the rim-flow swimming pool or book a treatment at The Turbine’s popular Amani Spa.
