Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa

Shandrani Resort & Spa lies on the south-east coast of Mauritius, close to the island’s airport. This is one of the larger Beachcomber properties, however, a choice of sandy beaches and four fantastic restaurants means that the resort never feels crowded.

The location is beautiful: a private peninsula with a wild beach on the ocean side, as well as two more beaches lining a peaceful lagoon which forms part of the Blue Bay Marine Park. Go snorkelling straight off the beach, or take a boat trip out to the deeper waters where larger fish swim amongst the vibrant corals. The diving is excellent with steep drop-offs, caves and the wreck of the Sirius to explore.

Shandrani offers a wide range of activities including water skiing, kayaking, windsurfing and glass-bottom boat cruises. Make the most of staying in the south by hiring a car and getting to know this more undeveloped side of the island with its sandy beaches, forests and waterfalls. You could also take a speedboat out to Ile aux Aigrettes reserve to see giant tortoises (one over 95 years old!).

Being a larger resort, Shandrani has a range of accommodation types including romantic lagoon-facing suites, and light and airy family apartments. There are also great dining options with plenty of seafood, some local Creole dishes, an authentic Thai restaurant “Teak Elephant”, and the popular Ponte Vecchio which serves Italian and Mediterranean-style cuisine.

Just 7 kilometres from the airport, Shandrani Resort & Spa is wonderfully convenient for those early morning flights but this does mean that you’ll hear planes taking off.
