Ruckomechi Camp

Ruckomechi has a beautiful setting, tucked amongst shady trees on the bank of the Zambezi River. Elephant frequently wanders through camp, and each tent has spectacular views over grassy floodplains and the broad flowing river, to the mountains of neighbouring Zambia.

Game viewing on the private concession is excellent with large herds of elephant and plenty of predators including lion, wild dog, cheetah and leopard. While relaxing on your private deck you’ll hear the constant grunt of hippo, and see wildlife come and go at the water’s edge. The birdlife too is phenomenal from saddle-billed storks to the colourful clouds of carmine bee-eaters that nest in the riverbanks.

Game drives in Mana Pools not only offer up exciting wildlife sightings, but also that feeling of being somewhere truly wild and remote. One afternoon leave the vehicle behind and set off on a guided walk, a boat trip on the Zambezi River or a canoe safari. Keen fishermen can cast for tiger fish, bream and barbel (catch-and-release); and the lodge has a romantic sleep-out deck for a night spent under the stars.

Ruckomechi has 10 comfortable tents, each with both an indoor and an outdoor shower. The camp is run on solar power, so don’t expect air-conditioning or a hair drier in your rooms. There is, however, a small infinity swimming pool overlooking the river, and in the evenings after dinner, you can lie back on a cushion-strewn deck and learn more about the bright night sky.
