Mara Nyika Camp

Located on the private 50,000-acre Naboisho Conservancy on the cusp of Kenya’s vast Maasai Mara, Mara Nyika is the newest Great Plains Conservation camp. In Swahili, Nyika means “Large or Great Plains.” Ringing in the romance and nostalgia of East Africa. While this intimate camp of just five tents and one 2-bedroom family suite is set in a valley, the light-coloured canvas tents were designed to sit under the canopy of umbrella thorn trees while still offering guests views out over the bush. Walkways from tents to the main area evoke the feeling of a treehouse under canvas, and the camp’s ethic and inspiration are one of exploration and adventure.

There are five tented suites at camp, with an additional guide’s tent if required. The intimate and personalised service at Mara Nyika makes it perfect for a romantic getaway. Still, the camp also welcomes families with children over the age of eight and would make a great option for an exclusive booking. Solar power provides electric light and recharging facilities in your room. Hot-air ballooning and a visit to a local Maasai community are available at an extra cost.

The conservancy model combines the conservation of nature and cultural heritage, tourism and enhancement of livelihoods for the local communities. Each guest’s stay supports over 500 Maasai families with a sustainable livelihood and helps to ensure the conservation of this vital corner Maasai Mara eco-system. Activities at Mara Nyika include safari drives (day & night) in some of the most luxurious wildlife viewing vehicles.
