King’s Camp
Experience a classic Big 5 safari in the Timbavati, while enjoying the gracious hospitality and colonial-style luxury of Kings Camp. A great choice for safari first-timers, Kings Camp has 9 air-conditioned chalets, a small spa, and a rim-flow swimming pool overlooking an active waterhole.
Days at Kings Camp are arranged around morning and afternoon game drives. Sharing an unfenced border with the Kruger Park, Timbavati Game Reserve is home to large herds of elephant and buffalo, rivers full of hippo, and plenty of big cats: lion, leopard and cheetah too. This region is also famous for its rare white lions, although your chance of seeing one is very slim.
As for the accommodation, each generously spacious chalet has a four-poster bed, a comfortable sitting area, and large en-suite bathroom. The décor has a colonial theme with dark wood furniture, zebra-skin rugs, and black-and-white safari photos on the walls. In the bathroom, you’ll find a Victorian ball-and-claw bathtub and indoor shower, as well as a double outdoor shower for rinsing off under the stars.
Each chalet opens onto a veranda with a hammock, and most have a view of the waterhole. For more private outdoor space, the two Honeymoon Suites each have a small swimming pool. Or small groups travelling together can book Waterbuck Private Camp: a 4-bedroom villa with its own game viewing vehicle, ranger, butler and chef.
Kings Camp has been designed with plenty of places to simply relax. Watch wildlife from the thatched viewing deck or down by the pool, opt for a massage at the spa, or visit the lodge library with its interesting old books and leather armchairs. Staff are always on hand to fix your favourite drink, and in the evenings a three-course dinner is served in the dining room, around the fire in the traditional boma or – for a romantic occasion – at a table for two on your private veranda
