Gondwana Game Reserve
Gondwana is a private game reserve located along the Garden Route, only a 4-hour drive out of Cape Town. The reserve is the only fynbos reserve in the world that is home to free-roaming Big Five Game. During game drives, you might be lucky and spot endangered species like the Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, and sable. Guests can also enjoy informative Fynbos walks with their field guide and discover endemic birdlife that occurs nowhere else in the world, such as the Black Harrier and Orange Breasted Sunbird. Other activities also include bird watching, fishing, and hiking, and for children, there is a junior ranger program.
Gondwana offers a diverse selection of luxury safari lodge accommodation: The Bush Villas, ideal for families or groups. These are three luxury, self-catered villas, all situated within a large, safe area fenced and inhabited with plains game. The other option is more suited to couples and is the Kwena Lodge has fourteen cottage rooms, all with unbelievable views across the valley and skylights for star gazing at night.
Gondwana’s goal is to continue expanding its current 11,000-hectare area and provide the Western Cape with a large eco-tourism destination. The reserve has already reintroduced the first endangered black rhino to the Western Cape, and the wildlife population continues to grow year upon year.
