Chiawa Camp

Family-owned and operated Chiawa Camp is a wonderful oasis of luxury on the bank of the Zambezi River in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. Constructed of natural materials, this multi-award-winning camp blends into its beautiful surroundings. Each of the safari tents boasts spectacular views over the Zambezi along with the hippo that graze the grassy banks and herds of elephant that come to the river to drink.

Chiawa has nine gorgeous canvas tents on wooden decks spread out along the riverbank. Attention to detail is excellent, from the locally made furniture to the pure cotton linen and en-suite bathroom with clawfoot bathtub and both indoor and outdoor showers. The chefs here take immense pride in preparing exquisite cuisine which is usually served in the open: an alfresco lunch or 4-course dinner under the stars in the boma or on a sandbank in the Zambezi River.

Game viewing is excellent, and the wildlife enjoys free access between the Lower Zambezi National Park and Mana Pools National Park on the Zimbabwean side of the river. It’s not uncommon to see elephant wandering through camp! The wide variety of safari activities on offer includes game drives, night drives, canoeing on the Zambezi, informative bush walks, fishing expeditions, sunset cruises and even star gazing All led by Chiawa Camp’s team of highly qualified guides!
